I used Lancaster for many years, but last year changed to Footman James.
For about £5 more (£108) I think I got more mileage, 10k agreed value and europe wide brakedown insurance but they do require you to cofirm start mileage at the begining of the policy.

Hi try this site

I think you will find them hard to get in UK unless Dave or Peter have any for sale.

Re: Type 3 difficult to start
Hi Is your cold start injector working check wires and injector. Try these sites for a fault finding chart but ive found when you have a problem its better to start by checking all wiring starting at the ecu most of the time its not a part falure but a bad contact or broken wire somewhere. Anyway ho...

Re: fuel pump psi Q?
Hi Fuel Injection, The fuel pressure is 28psi and you will find a take off to fit a guage on either lh/rh side of engine between the fuel injectors. The fuel pressure regulator is on the bulkhead left side of engine where the pipe passes through to return to the tank. But if your only running at 4-7...

Re: Can you give me an idea of the value for my insurance
Yes thanks, I was thinking 8-10k as noboby would want to sell a good one and with only about 15-20 of this model left to get a tatty one up to this condition (a good respray is 4-5k now) + any parts if you can get them. I was offered 6k last year but I`ve done a lot of work on it since. Thanks for t...

Can you give me an idea of the value for my insurance
Just changed my insurance to Footman James and it would seem a good idea to agree a value. So what do you think she`s worth. Purchased by myself in Feb 1974 she had a ground up restoration 22 years ago including sandblasting the shell. Still mostly original parts and not modified. Condition as you c...

Re: Engine Oil??
Use SAE30 oil (GSF sell Morrises @about £17.00)
Multigrade oil will stop the oil cooler working as well because the viscosity changes.
When changing the oil watch out for the sump plug if you over tighten it you may have problems with the hellicoil next time.

Re: Type 4 Gearbox ident/valuation
Hi Peter They both look like Type 4 to me. The top one with the white mark on it is an early 1969 and the other with slave cylinder built in is a later 1971 on. Variant model has a higher 4th gear ratio than saloon but I dont know which these are by the pictures. As for value anything up to £250 on ...

Re: 412 rear bearings and CV boots
Hi Cv boots you can get from GSF I think they are the same as later Type2 the kit includes new bolts and the metal flange that fits onto the joint and do not cost as much as you would think. The wheel bearing should be tightened to a torque as there is a spacer between the taper rollers but given th...

Make sure you take the plugs out before you try any of these and yes the fan blades are very brittle at this age.

Re: driving automatics
Try changing the fluid as autos require correct type and quantity. Is the idle speed to high? they all do grab a bit when shifting the box through the gears but one of the worst things you can do is to keep puting the box in `N` when stopping say at a red light, only take out of gear if stopped for ...

I think you will find air in the system to blead the clutch the blead nipple is on the slave cylinder on top of the bell housing behind the fire wall between the engine /gearbox.

Re: 412 exhausts and tail pipe
I think you will find all 411/412 exhausts are the same although in the early days the tail pipe exited from the middle of the box and ran down the box parralell with it and then curved around, the tail pipe was about 500mm long. This was later changed to the short stubby type now used that bolts di...

Re: Brake parts for a 412
Im using Mercedes W123 rear disc pads in my calipers they are the same as early type 4 (thiner pads) and have worked fine for the last 3 years and it flys through the Mot.
You can get them from GSF about £15.00 if I remember.
Good luck

Hi Remove the caliper and grip in a vice, hold back 1 of the pistons with a clamp and with compressed air ( I use a 12v air compressor via the fag lighter or battrey charger) blow out the other piston which may be rusted in place. Remove the dust seal from the piston and any rust with wire wool. Rem...
